How balance works
Your balance pays for live translation in all three modes. $7.50 adds 60 translation minutes. How quickly they are used depends on the mode and, for Calls, the live multiplier.

Guests do not pay
The host pays for Call translation. Guests do not need an account, app install, subscription, or payment method.
One balance. Three modes.
In-Person and Listener use translation at 1x. Call mode uses a live multiplier because it translates every connected participant.
Call mode: $7.50 per hour with live multiplier
Call mode costs $7.50 per multiplier-hour. A one-to-one Call has two participants, so it is 2x, or $15.00 for one hour. Each connected participant adds 1x.
In-Person mode: $7.50 per hour
A face-to-face conversation on one device uses balance at 1x. One hour of active translation costs $7.50.
Listener mode: $7.50 per hour
Listening to speech around you uses balance at 1x. One hour of active translation costs $7.50.
Call pricing multiplier
Call mode costs $7.50 per participant-hour. Each connected participant adds 1x to the live multiplier, no matter which of the Call's two languages they use.

Billing details without surprises
TolkTime shows your balance and, during Calls, the current multiplier. Usage is calculated from active translation time.
Translation time is rounded
Usage under 30 seconds rounds down. At 30 seconds it rounds to one minute. Longer aggregate usage rounds to the nearest whole translation minute.
The Call multiplier is live
The multiplier changes when participants join, leave, or reconnect. Each connected participant adds 1x, and you can see the current multiplier on the host's Call screen.
